Last week, our team organised two fantastic events as part of Get Online Week, aimed at promoting digital inclusion and helping our community get connected.
Digital Inclusion Event at Abingdon Library
On Monday, we kicked off Oxfordshire’s Get Online Week events with a Digital Inclusion session at Abingdon Library. Organised by our Digital Infrastructure Programme team’s Anna Miles, in collaboration with the NHS, the event focused on teaching attendees how to use the NHS app. This session was particularly special as Abingdon Library, the event location, was connected by our team as part of the GigaHubs project.
The GigaHubs project has connected many public service sites with high-speed broadband, and our DIP team is now exploring how these connected locations can be used for service delivery in the future. This new connectivity is set to benefit communities in Oxfordshire in numerous ways, including:
- NHS Services
- Third Sector Services
- Adult Social Care Services
- Core Community Services
- Local Democracy
- Digital Inclusion
By utilising these flexible locations, we aim to reduce the strain on public services and ensure that our partners can support us in these efforts. Monday’s event demonstrated the power of collaboration and how we can use these spaces to benefit our communities.

PSTN Withdrawal Information Drop-In Session at Westgate Library
On Friday, we hosted a PSTN Withdrawal Information Drop-In Session at Westgate Library. Chris Hockley, the Engagement Manager for Digital Voice at EE, joined us to provide valuable insights and answer residents’ questions.
Did you know that for EE alone, there are still 5 million people who have yet to switch to a digital voice service? Chris’s presence was instrumental in helping attendees understand the importance of making the switch and how to do it.
We are thrilled with the success of these events and look forward to continuing our efforts to promote digital inclusion in our community. Stay tuned for more updates and events!
